Description
1/4-20 SS Coupling Nut is a high-quality, durable fastener that offers greater corrosion resistance than HDG or zinc alternatives, often used in marine, chemical-exposure, and moisture-heavy fastening applications.
These are sometimes called “coupler nuts” or “extension nuts”. Coupling nuts have a cylindrical body, a fully threaded interior, and an open end on each side designed to join two externally threaded fasteners end to end. Their elongated hex body allows for easy tightening with standard wrenches and sockets, and the stainless steel construction provides reliable performance in corrosive and moisture-heavy environments while maintaining a clean, polished appearance.
Stainless Steel (SS) 18-8
- Stainless Steel 18-8 coupling nuts have a higher corrosion resistance than HDG or zinc alternatives
- These are often used around chemicals or saltwater, and in applications requiring a clean, polished appearance with long-term durability
1/4-20 SS Coupling Nut Features
- Full-length interior threading on both ends allows two threaded fasteners to be joined and tensioned in a single continuous assembly
- Elongated body provides greater thread engagement than a standard nut, improving pull-out resistance and connection strength
- Corrosion and scratch resistant, durable when submerged in water or exposed to mild chemicals
Common Uses
- Marine construction, docks, and waterfront structures involving threaded rod or bolt extensions
- Coastal and chemical-exposure environments including piers, water treatment facilities, and outdoor equipment
- Applications requiring a clean, polished aesthetic finish alongside reliable corrosion resistance
Application
- Thread one fastener into each end of the coupling nut, ensuring both achieve full thread engagement through the length of the nut
- Use a wrench or socket sized to the hex body to tighten and secure the connection
- Ensure both mating fasteners share the same thread diameter and pitch before assembly
Tips
- Always verify that both fasteners are the same thread diameter and pitch — mismatched threads will damage the nut and compromise the connection
- Coupling nuts are measured by their thread diameter, pitch, and overall length
- Use stainless steel washers and fasteners throughout the assembly to avoid galvanic corrosion when pairing with SS 18-8 components
