Description
10-24 Zinc Tee Nut is a light-duty fastener with a zinc-plated finish suited for dry, indoor applications where a permanent, flush-mounted threaded insert is needed but heavy corrosion protection is not required.
Tee nuts have a flanged base with prongs or teeth that grip into a substrate, and a threaded barrel extending perpendicularly from the flange, designed to provide a permanent, flush-mounted threaded insert in wood, composite, or other soft materials. The zinc plating provides basic corrosion protection for general-purpose interior assemblies in furniture, cabinetry, and structural panel applications.
Zinc
- Zinc tee nuts are plated with a thin zinc coating that provides light corrosion resistance suitable for non-critical applications
- These are best suited for dry, indoor environments where exposure to moisture, chemicals, or the elements is not a concern
10-24 Zinc Tee Nut Features
- Flanged base with anchoring prongs that bite into the surrounding material upon installation, preventing rotation and pull-through under bolt load
- Flush or recessed installation provides a clean, low-profile threaded connection that does not protrude from the workpiece surface
- Light corrosion protection from zinc plating, suitable for general-purpose indoor and dry-environment assemblies
Common Uses
- Indoor furniture assembly and cabinetry where a permanent, recessed threaded connection is required for bolts, knobs, or handles
- Climbing holds, gym equipment, and sporting goods in dry, indoor environments requiring strong embedded threaded inserts in wood or composite panels
- Flatpack and structural panel assemblies in interior settings where a reliable, flush-mounted threaded connection simplifies repeated assembly and disassembly
Application
- Pre-drill a hole sized to the outer diameter of the tee nut barrel through the workpiece
- Insert the tee nut from the back or underside of the workpiece, positioning the flange flush against the surface
- Drive the flange prongs into the substrate using a mallet or press, then thread a compatible bolt in from the opposite face to draw the nut fully into place and lock the prongs
Tips
- Always pre-drill to the correct diameter — an oversized hole will prevent the prongs from anchoring securely, while an undersized hole will make installation difficult and risk splitting the material
- Tee nuts are measured by their thread diameter, pitch, and barrel length, matching the bolt they are paired with and the thickness of the substrate they are installed in
- Zinc tee nuts are not recommended for exterior, high-moisture, or corrosive environments — use SS 18-8 for those applications
